Tech Update / Adventures with Claude Code #6

Weekend Special: the commands nobody needs (and everybody loves)

The last few parts were pretty serious: skills, CLAUDE.md, MCP. Time for something lighter before the weekend.

Claude Code has a handful of commands that have little to do with productivity. Or only a little. Just type / and give them a try:

Make sure you have a current version (run "claude update")

📻 /radio

Opens Claude FM in your browser, a lo-fi station from Anthropic that runs around the clock. Curated by musicians, not by an algorithm. The perfect soundtrack for your next long refactoring session.

🎨 /color

Colors the prompt bar of the current session. Leave out the color and you get a random one. Sounds like a gimmick, but it's genuinely useful: with several sessions open side by side, you can tell at a glance which one is rebuilding the frontend and which one is fixing the tests.

🏷️ /stickers

Orders real Claude Code stickers. Physical ones. For your laptop. Yes, really.

🎓 /powerup

Short interactive lessons with animated demos covering Claude Code's features. Perfect for a quiet fifteen minutes on a Friday afternoon.

📱 /mobile

Shows a QR code for the Claude app on your phone. Also works as /ios or /android, depending on which side you're on.

🎁 /passes

Gives friends a free week of Claude Code, if your account is eligible. Possibly the nicest weekend gift for fellow developers.

Quick note: not every command shows up on every plan and in every environment. The / menu is still worth a look.

My rule of thumb for the weekend:

  • /radio on
  • /color green
  • And then close the laptop anyway. 😉

Next time it gets serious again: security and permissions, as promised in part 5.
